The days had come and gone much too quickly after the black wolf's encounter in Irrsin. He'd bolted without so much as a goodbye as soon as Kasimira's snout turned in the direction of his encounter with Adali--and continued fleeing for days afterwards. He drudged through rivers, slept in a foxhole, and skirted much too dangerously close to the nearby Einheit. He might have vaguely seen a member out in the distant, rocky ground but he hadn't stopped for anything other than more dirt on his hind legs. Anything to get away, and anything to now stay away. He wasn't even sure what was so stir-crazy inside himself as to cause such a ruckus like this. He'd been bored out of his mind for loneliness while ruling Norden, occupying his days with an intense focus on the rabbit population of his one wolf pack. Maybe ruling just wasn't for him. Although clearly, neither was pack life after one look at Kasimira at the head of a hunting party. Marzell sighed deeply and looked out over the crashing waves. Those days were gone. And right now, with Iudex's blessing, he needed lots of distance between them.
After speaking with Adali, albeit shortly, it was hauntingly clear to him now how unlike his mother's temperament he was, even if they were the same reflection in any lake. She'd informed him rather bluntly that his father had made a departure of his own, ultimately due to infidelity issues. He was reassured that the queen would be delighted to have him home, having believed he was dead all these moons. But when his own opportunity for return came, he ran. Something inside Marzell seethed at the thought. He would have his mother's looks forever but never her spirit, never that fire she was infamous for. Never that drive. He was, in all respects, a failure.
Marzell plopped himself ungracefully into the sand, holding his shoulders up while his head drooped down towards the waves. His dearest sister had been found from among the dead, only to be lost as a sklavin to the alpha of Regnen. His mother resided in her lands without her two children, one of which she probably still believed was dead and the other alive but instead choosing to not so much as drop by to catch up. His father had found she-wolves other than his mother to partake his time alongside, and had subsequently left. Dresna, for all he knew, was growing up to become the spoiled, rabbit-furred she-wolf he had always imagined her as. And here he was, paw deep in the ocean lamenting his sorrow.
Irritated, snarling, and full of desperation, Marzell simply watched the glittering sun sink further and further into the horizon.

I D A (ee-da) Life is a blessing. This thought glistened prominently in her head these last few hours. Not often did such mundane, simple things occupy her verdant mind. Usually it swarmed with ambitions towards the future - things that she wanted to do, will do, no matter the blockades that dare stand in her path. It was a path she would pave for the sake of her memory when one day she proved no more than bones scattered to dust. But that was not this day. This day, the female felt quite content to bask under the rays of a dying sun, spread out on a warm rock while the ocean breeze contrasted the risk of overheating on its granite surface. Sometimes the little things even got the best of wolves with such world-conquering views. The view here wasn't all too shabby, either. As the waters crawled up the vacant beach in their ebbing tides the sun painted them in a brilliant canvas that mirrored the colors of her fur. The Osten alpha blinked, sighed contentedly, and stretched her forepaws far before her with a quiet whine for nobody's ears. She honestly couldn't reason why this place had forgone her visits since taking her small lands. The beach, to her, seemed a paradise. Maybe one day she'd reign over a place like this. For now, she merely gazed languidly around her, bright grey eyes still lidded from her nap. Darkness would be upon her soon. However, the diminishing light didn't prevent her from spotting the tiniest speck of black far down the shore. That wasn't there earlier. Ida rose to her paws with a huff of irritation. For herself. She suddenly felt quite sloppy for this oversight. It was not often anyone managed to creep upon such a clear horizon without her notice, nor was it for her to ignore an arrival so intriguing. She descended the outcropping slowly, and similarly made her way down the shores. It wouldn't favor her to rush upon a stranger - least of all because she didn't know them, most of all because Rowan wasn't here with her today. Dominor of a small land she might be, but she wasn't exactly packing in size or physical scope. Nor was she fool enough to toss herself too closely to whom she did not know. The female halted several yards away as the wind whipped his unfamiliar scent around her senses. She breathed heavy, then out, ears perked confidently and curiously atop her skull. Even from the distance he looked malcontent. Ida was not a fool and chose to stand her ground far enough to dodge away should he prove of the hostile variety. However, she was not one easily dissuaded by the assumption of a foul mood. She wondered if he'd been slighted somehow and needed aide. Generosity might not have been her primary trait, but if it suited her she could be outstandingly charitable. And right about then, observing a mysterious brute as tall, dark and handsome as the night sky, she certainly felt it suited her. "I'd say that snarl flatters you, dear," she voiced at last with a coquettish quirk to her maw. She settled down on her haunches with the curl of her tail around small paws. The sand was still warmed, not yet conquered by the chill of oncoming dusk. "Yet I find myself fretting to find such a sullen brute so close to my lands. Should I be concerned?"

"I'd say that snarl flatters you, dear,"
The problems of Irrsin were forgotten as quickly as they had surfaced. It was a soft voice, almost a whisper that sent Marzell wildly scrambling to his paws. Dripping water from his hind end, he turned as quick as the salt and sand would allow to face a rose-coated female. Tail wrapped coily around her legs, her eyes trailing over him--hell, she looked almost pleased with herself. Flushed over his reaction, the male's pelt burned beneath the black color. If he had been loathing and disgruntled before, he was even more so now that his self-pity had allowed him to be surprised in such a manner. It was all Marzell could do not to snarl, instead curbing his rising lip once he decided she wasn't really a threat.
"Yet I find myself fretting to find such a sullen brute so close to my lands. Should I be concerned?"
"Well miss," and at this Marzell narrowed his eyes, "I certainly wouldn't begin that conversation by sneaking up on brutes that are possibly believed to be worth fretting over."
He then paused, taking a moment to look her over more carefully as he licked his dark chest fur flat once more. Observing as politely as he could without ignorning her, he noted her stature, her face. She was thin in frame yet appeared supple even underneath all of her creamy grey and red fur. Her eyes, a hazed blue-green. Marzell leaned down and adjusted the fur on his legs for another moment. She was, in all respects, quite pretty. And yet, she was a new face in a setting he'd been few times previous. The shores were large but they weren't so large as to keep him from spotting, or at least scenting, her before now. Minding his eyes, Marzell tried to make direct contact with hers.
"What land is it exactly that you call home? I've never seen your pelt before."
At the start, his voice was slightly dismissive in tone, watching her with a quirked brow and his deep cerulean eyes. She had been at least agreeable so far, and with how deprived of interaction he was, Marzell's body language betrayed him by being more inviting than his voice. With one ear pricked towards her and the other listening to birds in the distance, Marzell blinked the last rays of sun from his eyes. I certainly would have remembered, had we met...

I D A (ee-da) Something about the slightly startled flare of his expression sent the wings of satisfaction fluttering all throughout her body. Ida wasn't sure how much of her advance went unnoticed, but it seemed enough to at least stroke that slight superiority complex snuggled somewhere in her bones. Yet the winds here were not in her favor - who was to tell how long ago he'd smelled her. Certainly not heard for she was as quiet as a mouse scurrying among clouds with her paws in the soft sand. But his response... his response was a delight. "Oh?" Her eyes narrowed similarly, albeit her own hostility was smothered by the challenge glint in her gaze. "Shall I wander off then? Allow this fretful brute to skulk near my borders without so much as a sniff in his direction? I'd like to think it's better to know your enemy." Though not well enough to know those teeth. Her eyes drifted passively away as if she were thinking about abandoning him to his frustrations. Perhaps he thought to drown himself in the waves. What other purpose was there to soak oneself in sea waters? Her ears swiveled, nose twitched as she kept him securely in her peripheral in case the bright idea to leap from the waves crossed that mysterious mind. But it seemed he had a question for her. "Osten." Intentionally vague. She wouldn't want to be giving out directions to fretful brutes, after all. Or its numbers even if Rowan was wolf aplenty to account for three on his own. Without a doubt this male probably possessed the to skill trail her scent right back there if she wasn't smart with this. It was small speck in the landscape for now, but one day it would put its humble roots to shame. Ida chose not to start preaching its glories and praises yet. Instead, the female unfurled her tail from her paws and found all fours again. Rather than 'wandering off', she decided to have an essential, languid stretch to rise her from the last remnants of slumber. One forepaw out, followed by the other with rump in the air. She wagged her tail once, twice, before switching gears and raising her front again so that she could stretch those back legs as well. All the while keenly aware of just where this stranger decided to go. When that was done, she peered at him again. "So what say you? Are we going to be enemies, dear?"

"Osten."
Ahh, so she belonged to one of the territories right near his old domain. Interesting. Marzell, for all of the interest bubbling inside of him, decided it would be best for the moment to keep his previous status under paw. The time would come for that information later, he was sure. Instead, he decisively dipped his head, meeting Ida's gaze as she began to stretch. The male's ears flicked backwards with uncertainty before he hesitantly rose to all fours, watching her with a new interest. Her fur looked pristine in the dying sun's light, glittering from water drops and ocean spray. Subdued with this movement, this motion from her, Marzell let his tail hang easy and his eyes narrowed if only slightly. This indistinct flirting reminded him vaguely of another female in another time, one who had complimented him offpaw to gain his favor. And Sinead's eyes were rather similar to this wolf's as well... Marzell's thoughts shifted as the she-wolf gazed over at him again, those blue-green eyes piercing him head on.
"So what say you? Are we going to be enemies, dear?"
Not if you keep that up. Marzell blinked, considering her eyes carefully before speaking. His voice was in it's normal rough tone, but with a hint of teasing within.
"I keep a policy of staying neutral until either I know the wolf of speculation well enough to make a further decision, or until they give me a reason not to."
Marzell, keeping his gaze on the she-wolf, stepped forward a few paces. Closer, but not too close.
"So, tell me, she-wolf of Osten, who are you? What, for example, made you join your pack?"
The sun had sunk into the ocean and the darkness was settling around the pair of them, but Marzell was only just now beginning to feel the chill of the water as it seeped into his fur. He was mindless of the numbing of his paws as he watched her, curiosity brimming. She was intriguing, that was for sure. Maybe he was just lonely enough to be open about these abstract kinds of things, or maybe there was something about her that really, deeply unsettled his normal patterns, his usual habits. Either way, ignorant to the winds picking up, the black wolf stood before her, this time with both ears pricked forward.

I D A (ee-da) The promiscuous display managed to get the male on all fours. This proved to be progress in Ida's mind. His cerulean eyes were keen yet narrowed, reserved yet interested. Ida did not consider herself a harlot but right about then she felt shamelessly satisfied with herself and how easy it had been to coax even a string of his interest. Quite suddenly she felt glad Rowan wasn't here to see her attempts at... at what? More likely to throw salt on the wounds of anyone with even one minutely harsh word towards her, she did not often toy with the minds of strange brutes. But she could have her small bit of fun if she wanted to. Too long had passed since last being able to flirt. Rowan - whom she greatly enjoyed the presence of - was never this receptive and she was often afraid to try with him. And her monstrous neighbor in Suden was out of the question. If he wasn't going to turn on her, she didn't see why they couldn't come to an accord. "Ah, a diplomat, then." She said this as she straightened back out and turned those bright eyes on him once more. "Smart." The word almost ebbed out in a purr, ears tilting forward as the dark male dared to pace a few steps toward her. Ida was not flighty when she the occasion didn't require it. She held her ground, mindful that she did not know him and thus he could turn this game around on her at any moment if she wasn't careful. No doubt he could take her down easily if he wanted to. But oh, she didn't feel like being overly cautious. She shook - just a little bit to fluff up that coat of hers. Dusk brought the chill, after all. "The name is Ida. I am my pack and seek to create a beacon for many. It is young, but it is mine." And currently only harbored one other besides her. No matter, for there were plenty of other ways to mend that. "Perhaps one day it will grow exponentially." A hint in her tone that she cared little if he caught, the said she-wolf decided to mirror his previous advance. One step, two, three, mindful of keeping just out of his reach as her gaze crawled over him again. His fur was as dark as a starless night with that water saturating it. She felt a spike of curiosity on what tempted him into the ocean with a snarl in the first place. Perhaps she could ask him that in time. Settling a few paces to his left as she stared him down, tail swaying lightly behind her, Ida dared to say something else for now. "Now let us continue with your name. Perhaps we will get to know each other well enough after that."

"Ah, a diplomat, then. Smart."
Something in Marzell fluttered then, almost flickered, but his eyes kept steady on her.
"The name is Ida. I am my pack and seek to create a beacon for many. It is young, but it is mine. Perhaps one day it will grow exponentially."
So she's the alpha then. Well, that changed things a bit. Marzell, for all his attention to detail had not expected such a revelation. Scatterbrained and intertwined with ideas of Ida's glossy fur, he promptly lowered his head, greeting her as he should have upon their first interaction.
"I apologize for not recognizing your status sooner."
"Now let us continue with your name. Perhaps we will get to know each other well enough after that."
Marzell quirked a brow. This would be dangerous territory then, telling her who he was, who he came from, what lands he called home. Irrsin and Norden--they were places he had lived, sure. But they had felt like home in different senses, in different capacities. And neither one was definable in those terms anymore. How could he call Irrsin a home when he ran at the first sight of reintroduction? How could he claim Norden as his when it had ever only been himself and another she-wolf who hadn't stuck around for even a moon? Flustered with himself, Marzell's ears flattened slightly before he readjusted his stature. He had to keep it together. He could work out the semantics of his life later, but right now Ida was waiting for a response. Gazing into those blue-green eyes again, Marzell steadied himself within her.
"My call is Marzell," and then, after a slight pause, "I'm currently a lone freior in these parts."
Not exactly the whole truth, but he was by no means lying. Now that he'd jumped that log, it was his turn to test her. He had noticed how often she'd watched his body positioning and with how cold his wet fur had gotten, Marzell was now more than willing to take the chance on flirting with her less subtly It would soon be much too cold for the both of them out here and based on her tone of voice and her posturing, he had a hinting suspicion that Ida might be the only alpha in Osten. Carefully, Marzell held Ida's gaze as he moved forward, his ice blue into a sea of her blue-green. But just before they met, he slipped deliberately to her left, letting his muzzle drift just across her back. His touch wasn't heavy, but simply present on the tips of her fur. The silence bubbling, Marzell closed his eyes and began to ask her another question as he circled back to her beige face.
"If I could be so bold, I'll be needing to spend the night somewhere. Are there any nearby coves you could recommend, Ida?"
Pausing as if to consider her, Marzell quirked his head sideways in question.

I D A (ee-da) Something about the name sent the gears whirring in her skull. Just for a moment, though, as the spark of familiarity lit some memory that Ida couldn't quite pinpoint. Then it was gone and replaced by the here and now once more. But she knew that name from somewhere. Was it merely similar to another, or did he belong to one of the varying packs scattered throughout these lands that little birds once told her of? It mattered not enough at that moment to overthrow her aim at sating her own boredom and loneliness. And she was lonely. Puzzling together a pack proved more a task than she originally bargained for when setting out as a young, audacious she-wolf with a world at her paws. Bringing it to heel stared back at her akin to that of the daunting mountains that once she crossed. But if she could conquer mountains then she could conquer the duties of an alpha. This... this wasn't daunting. She liked to think she was good at dissecting the workings of others. Right then, Marzell was just within her grasp. "Do not fret," she assured him, watching with keen eyes as he gathered the guts to finally edge towards her. "I am not so easily slighted." Not easily, yet viciously. It required much grating to spark her ire. When that ire did arise it tended to be ruthless in its making. Physically imposing she was not, though it certainly didn't smother scathing words that could wound as severely as any razor teeth. A shiver threatened to rock her spine despite his ghostly touch. This hesitation was frustratingly adequate to spur that strange desperation that somehow manifested itself in the span of a few minutes. What was it about this stranger in all but name that managed to coerce her realizations so easily? She felt alone despite another in her pack, she missed her birth home, she was cold, and he was enough of a mysterious challenge that it's all she could do to tame a blazing curiosity. Surely he had more to offer than just whispers over her fur. "Well, freior," she began. Truly, Ida cared little if he belonged to anyone or anything - she tended to take what she wanted. "That is bold." Said with a purr as she watched him make his way around her. For a moment she paused in thought, looking up at him with feigned consideration. "But since you asked so nicely it would be rude of me not to acquiesce."The she-wolf was on the move then, angling towards the sparse forests opposite the beach. She swayed her hips and tossed a provocative glance over her shoulder before quite suddenly bounding into action. She ran up a rocky incline and across a narrow stretch of meadow windswept by the sea breeze that ran parallel to the water, all the while flicking her ears back to listen for his pursuit. She would find herself wholly disappointed if he chose not to follow or, worse, proved too weak to catch her. Ida did not dare toss any more glances to check. Somewhere under that multi-hued fur brimming with conviction lurked the fear of failure. But she was determined to catch this conquest. If she gave him shelter, maybe he would entertain her more. Shelter was only a brief dash over the horizon. Still far from from any of the smaller territories, yet within earshot of the booming crash of waves on the beach. The cave jutted subtly from a rocky overhang with its narrow entrance a mess of tide pools barely reached by a high tide. It made getting in a task to jump from one dry spot to the next but once a wolf managed that, the inside twisted upwards with protection against moisture and harsh winds and opened up into a comfortable, dry space enough for the both of them. She'd come here twice before when she was at her weakest and didn't want Rowan to witness his alphess as anything more than the tenacious she-wolf she sought to be. Right now, however, Ida felt alive with confidence. She turned to acknowledge the entry from the far back wall of the cave. Waiting.
